Choreographing my first routine!

In less than 2 weeks I am off to Cyprus to take part in my first pole camp! I’m so excited, but also quite nervous. Pole camp is 5 days in a lovely hotel in Cyprus that will include 3 days (12 hours in total) of pole dance training from some world class instructors. For anyone interested there will be 2 a year, check out the website here.

If you have read some of my previous posts you will have seen that I have never attended a proper pole class before, so I am super excited to be able to work on my technique and know if what I am doing is correct.  The part I’m worried about is the showcase at the end of the week when we all get to perform. I am not a natural dancer…nor do I know how to choreograph a routine… I’m not even sure how to combine the moves I can do together.

I knew what I wanted to do, I can do pretty wicked rag doll make up, as pole camp is just after halloween I thought I could do a creepy doll routine.  I have chosen the theme tune to the movie dead silence, perfect match! With the first two workout sessions I had choreographed the first minute and a half, excellent! For the next month I continued with the same thing…the same minute and a half. I just could not crack it, could not think of anymore moves to put together!

After a complete meltdown I have realised that I didn’t really know or care about the song, I only picked it as it matched my theme, at this point pole camp is 3 weeks away……

fuck it.

So…now what? I only have 3 weeks and I only know basic moves… COMEDY! I have looked over YouTube far and wide for pole comedy routines, there’s a lot out there but very similar. I thought doing a Britney Spears routine might be quite funny, based on the oops I did it again music video.

Away I go, with ideas of costumes and combinations of moves, using YouTube videos for inspiration and ideas of combos, then there is was…. a routine by Dan Rosen to Britney Spears. Normally I wouldn’t mind and just watch for some ideas, but Dan is one of the instructors for camp.

Two and a half weeks to go….
